2010 Performers

Ian and Val McFarlane

Ian and Val have enjoyed English folk dancing for many years, and particularly dancing in the Playford style.

They have called at Playford Balls all around the country including Oxford, Wolterton Hall in Norfolk and Oldway Mansion in Devon. As well as courses in Playford dance performance and calling for Grand Union Structured Training Oranisation (GUSTO) they have taught at the Advanced workshops at Cecil Sharp House. They initiated the ‘Tring Ball’, an annual ball with dances composed in modern times in the Playford idiom.

Their dance workshops enable dancers to develop an understanding of how everyone can gain by appreciating a dance as a shared and joyous experience. They present a balanced selection of dances from traditional and from modern sources, most of which are performed to tunes that are chosen, and in some cases composed, to complement the movements.
